11. SPECIAL TOOLS. Connector backshells come in a
wide variety of types depending on the application. To
install backshells or accessories, adapter tools and a
strap wrench are needed. Adapter tools (Figure 2) are
used to hold the connector during backshell installation
and removal. Special tools are used to prevent damage
to connector shells and accessories.
12. ADAPTER TOOL SELECTION. To select the proper
tool, the shell size, and the type, either plug or receptacle,
needs to be known; then select the applicable tool.

13. ADAPTER TOOL ACCESSORIES. To hold the
adapter tool and to keep the connector from turning
when installing or removing backshells, the use of a 1/
4 inch drive T-handle is recommended. A strap wrench
