140. DESCRIPTION. The MIL-C-29600 backshell-to-
backshell EMI/RFI shielding protection equals or
exceeds the connector only, class W shielding
effectiveness offered on the MIL-DTL-38999 Series III
and IV connectors.

CONNECTOR
SYSTEM
BACKSHELL BUILD-UP. The following procedure
covers the backshell build-up for the MIL-C-29600
connector system:
a. Pull inner follower over wire bundle until
seated against back of connector (Figure 75 and
Figure 76).
b. Flare end of outer (gross shield) braid and fold
over center washer (Figure 77).

Wrap braid from any shielded wires within the
wire bundle around washer nearest to connector
(Figure 78).
d. Push third washer (farthest from connector)
against braid-wrapped washer (Figure 79).

Slide backshell outer coupling nut over
washers, braid, and inner follower and hand tighten
until firmly secured against connector back (Figure 80).
f.
Torque backshell coupling nut in accordance
with Table 10.
