TM 55-4920-328-13
Section II. SYSTEM CHECKOUT AND CRANE OPERATION
2-9. Preliminary Checkout Prior to Test.
To ensure the integrity of the system, accomplish
the following procedures prior to test of an engine. The
METS must be calibrated in accordance with TB
554920328-50 before engine testing begins. Proceed as
follows:
NOTE
The engine to be tested must be completely
connected
to
the
test
system
prior
to
accomplishing the following procedures.
a. Check to ensure that all support systems have been
serviced as specified in paragraph 2-6.
b. Check to ensure that the engine accessories
installation is complete and correct.
c. When included in the applicable engine accessories,
install the engine performance panel on the front of the
vertical tape indicator assembly
(9, figure 1-22.)
d. Inspect the dirt indicator of the filter (5, figure 1-16) for
evidence of clogging. If required, remove and clean the
filter prior to operation of the
system.
CAUTION
Failure to observe the precautions out- lined
In the following step will result In extreme
damage to the engine under test.
e. When testing an engine other than a T55, T73, or
IT700, position the manual selector valve (10, figure 1-
12) in the lest trailer oil system to the T53, T63, or T74
position, as applicable.
NOTE
The design of the METS electrical system
permits the use of an alternate source of
external
power.
Disconnect
cable
assemblies W28 andW29 from the respective
connectors J3 and J2 on the control cab
module. Disconnect the leads from the
generator set from terminals TB1, TB2, TB3,
and TB4 in the auxilairy trailer distribution
box. Connect a source of 208-volt, 300-
ampere, 3-phase, 4-wire power to the
terminal boards, using figure 5-2 as a guide.
NOTE
It is recommended that a fire extinguisher
conforming to local safety regulations be
obtained and mounted on the wall inside the
control cab.
NOTE
Assure the MAIN circuit breaker, (8, figure 2-9) is off.
f. Accomplish the prestart checkout of the generator set
as outlined in TM 55-6115-425-12.
g. Check to ensure the frequency selector switch on the
generator set is positioned to 60 cycles.
h. Check to ensure that the DC CONTROL circuit breaker
on the generator set is in the energized position.
i. For starting the generator set at or above temperatures
of +250 F, proceed as follows:
(1) Position the ENGINE START/RUN switch(35, figure
2-8) on the generator control panel to RUN.
(2) Actuate the TEST OR RESET switch (23) on the
generator set fault indicator panel to the TEST position.
Observe that all fault indicator lights on the panel come
on.
(3) Deenergize the TEST OR RESET switch (23). All
lights except (13,20) on the fault indicator panel must go
off.
(4) Position the ENGINE START/RUN switch (35) to
START. Leave the switch in this position until the engine
starts and the oil pressure gage (39) indicates 20 psig
minimum. At this time, position the switch to RUN.
Check to ensure that the generator output voltage and
frequency are within normal operating limits. If the under
voltage fault indicator light (20) remains on, depress the
TEST OR RESET switch (23), momentarily.
j. For starting the generator set at temperatures between
-250F and +250F, proceed as follows:
