TM 55-4920-328-13
WARNING
Do not energize the ENGINE PRIMER ON
switch (36) at any time that the engine is hot
(at or near the engine operating temperature
range). Failure to observe this warning may
cause an explosion with the possibility of
fire and resultant damage to the generator
set, and possible injury to test personnel.
CAUTION
Do not crank the diesel engine more than 15
seconds for any start. Allow a minimum of
15 seconds between at- tempted starts.
Failure to observe this precaution may result
In starter over- heat and will materially
reduce the service life of the battery through
excessive drain.
(1) Position the ENGINE START/RUN switch (35) to
START and alternately energize and de- energize the
ENGINE PRIMER ON switch (36). If required, continue
priming the diesel engine after engine start until the
output of the generator set reaches the normal operating
voltage and frequency as indicated on the voltmeter (10)
and frequency meter (6).
(2) After engine start, position the ENGINE
START/RUN switch (35) to RUN.
k. For starting the generator set at temperatures below -
250F, refer to TM 55-6115-425- 12.
CAUTION
Failure to adjust the primary voltage and
frequency output of the generator set prior
to energizing the MAIN circuit breaker and
auxiliary services circuit breakers may cause
extreme damage to METS Instrumentation.
I. Verify the output voltage of the generator set is 208
volts on all three phases, and is 120 volts in the fourth
position of the meter selector switch (8). Adjust the
VOLTAGE ADJUST control (25) to obtain the specified
voltage. Verify 60 Hz output frequency, then energize the
CIRCUIT BREAKER OPEN/CLOSE switch (33). Then
energize the MAIN breaker (8, figure 2-9). Energize the
following
auxiliary
services
circuit
breakers:
FUEL PUMP Circuit Breaker CB2 (4)
BEACON/SPARE Circuit Breaker CB4 (3)
LUBE PUMP Circuit Breaker CB6 (2) (T55
engine test only)
INST POWER Circuit Breaker CB8 (7)
AIR CONDITIONER Circuit Breaker CB10
(6)
OIL PRE-HEAT Circuit Breaker CB12 (5)
(T63 engine test only)
TRICKLE CHARGER Circuit Breaker CB13
(9)
MOTOR STARTER CONTROL Circuit
Breaker CB11 (10)
UTIL OUTLETS/LTG Circuit Breaker CB9
(11)
FLOOD LIGHT/BLOWER Circuit Breaker
CB7 (12)
INST POWER SUPPLY Circuit Breaker CB5
(13)
OIL PUMP Circuit Breaker CB3 (14) (All en- I
gines except T55, T73, and T700)
AIR COMPRESSOR Circuit Breaker CB1 (15)
m. Energize the four slide-type switches integral with light
assemblies 1A4, 2A4, 3A5, and 4A3, to provide console
illumination. Leave these switches energized at all times
except for maintenance actions.
n. Position the LEFT CONSOLE FAN 2-speed switch (6,
figure 1-26) and the RIGHT CONSOLE FAN 2-speed
switch (18) to HIGH. (For low temperature operation of
METS, place the switches in LOW.)
o. Energize the INST PWR ON switch (7, figure 1-26).
NOTE
If the switch lights fail to operate, troubleshoot
the affected circuits, and check out the under
frequency relay (K5, figure 5-2) and over-voltage
protection relay (K6), in accordance with chapter
5.
p. Energize the 26v ac, 400 Hz power supply (41, figure
1-25) by placing the on-off switch (40) in ON. Leave this
switch in the energized position at all times except for
maintenance actions.
q. Energize the 28v dc utility power supply assembly (48)
by positioning the on-off switch (45) to ON. Leave this
switch in the energized position at all times except for
maintenance actions.
