TM 55-4920-328-13
3-10. Operating Procedures.
WARNING
Ear protection must be worn by
operating
personnel
outside
the
control cab when the engine is being
operated. Failure to observe this
warning will result in damage to and
eventual loss of hearing.
After lightoff, accomplish the following:
WARNING
If
any
operating
parameter
is
abnormal,
immediately
stop
operation
of
the
engine
and
deenergize the system using the
emergency procedures outlined in
paragraph 3-12. Failure to observe
this warning will result in damage to
the equipment and may result in
serious
injury
to
operating
personnel. Refer to the applicable
aircraft
manual
for
operation
parameters.
a. Observe the percent of NI speed displayed on the
GAS PRODUCER meter (4, figure 1-24) to determine
the point at which Ground Idle is reached after lightoff.
b. Record the time required for the engine to reach
the specified Ground Idle speed on the engine test log.
c. Monitor the critical temperature displayed on the
EXHAUST GAS TEMP meter (38) and record the data
on the engine test log.
d. Test the engine in accordance with the specified
test procedures contained in the appropriate engine
technical manual. Record all test parameters on the
engine test log.
e. During test of a T73 engine, when required to set
the power trim to either the full-clockwise or full-
counterclockwise position, depress and hold the T73
PWR LEVER CW switchlight unit S5 (23, figure 1-24) or
the T73 PWR LEVER CCW switchlight unit S14, as
appropriate. Hold the applicable switchlight unit in the
depressed position for a minimum of 15 seconds to
ensure full travel operation of the trim control on the
engine.
f. During test of the T73-P-700 engine, when
required to check the Nil overspeed switch (238A, figure
2-50),
depress
and
hold
the
T73-OVER-SPEED
switchlight (28A, figure 1-24) and monitor the Nil speed
on the POWER TURBINE indicator (5) to ensure the
engine speed is within specified limits. Release
switchlight (28A).
g. Constantly monitor the pressures, temperatures,
and vibration readout instrumentation relative to water
brake performance, using the criteria specified in figure
3-1 and the table 3-2. Do not exceed the specified
parameters.
h. After completion of the test, deenergize the METS
systems as outlined in the normal shutdown procedures
specified in paragraph 3-11.
i. If a T55 engine was tested in accordance with the
preceding instructions, electrically disconnect the T55
electrical torque system instrumentation as follows:
(1) Pull the operator's panel 3A1 out of the console
to gain access to internal connections.
(2) For the T55-L-11/712, disconnect P8 of the
branched cable assembly (10, figure 2-7) from the
mating connector on the inverter (6).
(3) If the T55-L-7 torque indicator (2) was installed
and connected for testing a T55-L-7 engine, disconnect
P5 of the branched cable assembly (10) from the mating
connector on the torque indicator.
(4) If the T55-L-11/712 torque indicator (3) was
installed and connected for testing a T55-L-11/712
engine, disconnect P6 and P7 of the branched cable
assembly (10) from the mating connectors on the torque
indicator.
(5) Slide operator's panel 3A1 into the console.
