TM 55-4920-328-13
Section IV. STOPPING PROCEDURES
3-11. Normal Shutdown Procedures.
After test of an engine, the following procedures must
be accomplished in the specified sequence. Proceed as
follows:
a. Place the NI fuel control master control unit (19,
figure 1-21) in the Ground Idle position. Refer to the
applicable engine technical manual to obtain the
specified percent of NI speed, displayed on the GAS
PRODUCER meter (4, figure 1-24).
b. If required, momentarily depress the TIMER
RESET switchlight unit (36) to reset the elapsed time
indicator (37) at 000.0.
c. When testing an engine equipped with a hydraulic
starter, energize the hydraulic start system as specified
in chapter 2 of this manual, prior to engine fuel shutoff.
d. Position the NI fuel control and NIIl governor
control master control units (19, figure 1-21) on the
forward writing surface assembly to closed.
e. Shut off fuel to the engine by closing the
appropriate master control unit (NI or Nil) and
simultaneously depress the TIMER START switchlight
unit (35, figure 1-24) to start the coastdown cycle.
f. Position the water-out master control unit to full
open.
g. When the engine stops, depress the TIMER
START switchlight unit (35) to stop the timer. Monitor
the timer (37) and record the engine coastdown time on
the engine test log.
h. Deenergize the ENGINE DC switchlight unit (27,
figure 1-25).
i. Deenergize the ENGINE FUEL SOLENOID
switchlight unit (30, figure 1-25) and depress the FUEL
PUMP STOP switch (22, figure 1-26) to shut off the
supply of fuel to the engine.
I. Depress the following switches on the No. 1 power
control panel assembly (32) to remove power from the
support services:
Oil Pump Stop (23)
Oil Pre-Heat Off (24) (if applicable)
Lube Pump Stop (25)(if applicable)
Air comp stop (26)(if applicable)
Tower Fan No. 2 STOP (27)
Tower Fan No. 1 STOP (28)
Cooling Pump Stop (29)
Brake Pump Stop (30)
k. If required by the instructions contained in the
applicable engine technical manual, preserve the
engine. Use the PRESERVE switch (33, figure 1-24) to
crank the engine during the specified procedure. If
energized, deenergize the hydraulic start system as
noted in chapter 2 of this manual.
I. Disconnect and remove the engine and engine test
dolly in accordance with the applicable instructions
contained in Section II.
m. Depress the BEACON OFF switch (20, figure 1-
26) and FLOOD LIGHTS OFF switch (21) to deenergize
the applicable circuits.
n. Place all FUNCTION controls on the analyzer sub-
module upper panel instrumentation and diagnostic sub-
module upper panel instrumentation in TEST.
o. Depress the INST POWER OFF switch (31, figure
1-26).
p. Deenergize the following switchlight units on
services panel assembly 4A1 as shown in figure 1-25:
115 VAC 400 HZ (28)
INST DC (29)
CONSOLE DC (30)
26 VAC 400 HZ (31)
q. Open (deenergize) the 13 support services circuit
breakers CB1 through CB13 in the control cab circuit
breaker panel assembly (figure 2-9), then open the
MAIN BREAKER (8).
r. Position the ENGINE START/RUN switch (35,
figure 2-8) to STOP to stop the operation of the
generator set.
3-12. Emergency Shutdown Procedures.
When required, emergency shutdown of METS is
accomplished in the following sequence. Proceed as
follows:
a. Depress the INST POWER OFF switch (31, figure
1-26).
b. If time permits, immediately position the CKT BKR
OPEN/CLOSE circuit breaker switch
