TM 55-4920-328-13
Section IX. T700 ENGINES
2-61. Installation and Preparation of T700 METS
Test Adapter and T700 Engine for Testing.
a. General Practices. When installing the test
adapter, adherence to the following general practices
will facilitate installation and help prevent unnecessary
damage or wear and tear to the equipment.
(1) During assembly, be careful not to
drop nuts, washers, or other objects onto or into engine.
If an object is dropped, do not proceed further until it is
removed.
(2) To aid in reassembly, keep bolts
together as they are removed from each splitline.
(3) Do not use excessive force to assemble
parts. If excessive force is necessary, inspect
surfaces for burrs or pickups. Repair or replace
defective parts.
(4) All attaching bolts or nuts, as
applicable, must be tightened to the appropriate torque
value. When special torque values are not specified in
the text, refer to chapter 6 of this technical manual for
standard torque values.
(5) All used locknuts shall be tried for
self-locking
capabilities
before
being
reused.
Manually thread used locknut onto bolt or stud until it
stops turning. Replace locknut if bolt or stud threads go
past end of locknut.
(6) Install corrosion resistant MS20995
lockwire of the appropriate wire gage, when instructed in
the following text. Lockwire in accordance with
MS33540.
(7) See manual TM55-2840-248-23 for
procedure on wrench-arc method for
tightening, when this method is specified.
WARNING
LUBRICATING OIL
MIL-M-7808 and MIL-M-23699
If oil is decomposed by heat, toxic
gases are released.
Prolonged contact with liquid or mist
may cause dermatitis and irritation.
If there is any prolonged contact with
skin, wash area with soap and water.
If solution contacts eyes, flush eyes with
water immediately. Remove saturated
clothing.
If oil is swallowed, do not try to vomit.
Get immediate medical attention.
When handling liquid, wear rubber
gloves. If prolonged contact with mist is
likely, wear approved respirator.
(8) Discard all preformed packings (0-
rings) that are removed during disassembly. Do not
discard the fuel supply gasket unless sealing material is
damaged. Apply a light coating of engine oil MIL-L-
78n8 or MIL-L-23699 to new preformed packings.
Before installing new preformed packings, lubricate all
grooves and surfaces with engine oil.
(9) Unless otherwise noted, use a light coat
of engine oil MIL-L-7808 or MIL-L-23699 to lubricate
threads of bolts, screws, studs, coupling nuts, and
fasteners used in assembly. Failure to do this may
cause bolts to be improperly torqued or may cause
shank nuts to become loose during assembly. It may
also cause bolt seizure and/or failure during removal.
