WARNING
Handling Bladed Components
Wear
leather
palm
gloves
(welder's type with gauntlet) when
handling
components
with
assembled blades and vanes.
Blades and vanes are sharp and
can cause serious injury.
(7)
Insert torque shaft (9) into output shaf spline. If
necessary, rotate power turbine rotor by hand to align
spline of engine output shaft with spline of torque shaft.
CAUTION
Torque shaft (9) must be fully
seated
into
output
shaft.
Otherwise,
later
engine
installation can damage the shaft.
(8)
Gently useup-and-down and sideto-side motion
to fully seat torque shaft (9) into output shaft.
(9)
Lightly lubricatewater brake spline (11) with anti-
seize compound MIL-A-138818 (see table 1-8).
2-64. Installation of Engine into Support Frame.
a.
Place bellmouth (3, figure 2-56) behind rabbet
(14) of water brake torque element.
CAUTION
Keep engine parallel to support
frame to prevent damage from
incorrect contact with adapter
components.
b.
With another mechanic maintaining engine in
level position, carefully lower engine, and align torque
shaft (9) with water brake spline (11).
WARNING
Handling Bladed Components
Wear leather palm gloves
(welder's type with gauntlet) when
handling
components
with
assembled blades and vanes.
Blades and vanes are sharp and
can cause serious injury.
c.
Carefully move engine forward. It may be
necessary to pull mount for water brake torque element
assembly forward slightly to install engine. Insert torque
shaft (9) into water brake spline (11). Make sure torque
tube mount (6) is seated inside rabbet (14) of torque
element. Thread five screws (5) into torque tube mount.
Torque screws to 420-510 inch-pounds.
d.
With second mechanic slightly expanding clamp
(2), assemble bellmouth (3) to swirl frame flange (1).
Secure bellmouth with clamp.
e.
Torque nut of clamp (2) to 80-85 inch-pounds.
Install clip (10) into clamp (2).
f.
Align linkages (5 and 6, figure 257) to diffuser
case support lugs (7). If necessary, raise or lower
engine to align linkages with diffuser support lugs.
g.
Install two bolts (14) (boltheads forward) through
linkages (5 and 6). Thread two nuts (8) onto bolts.
Torque nuts to 480-570 inch-pounds.
h.
Slide inlet fairing (15) forward. Insert studs (16)
through boltholes in housing of water brake and torque
element mount (17).
i Threa nuts (18) onto studs (16). Torque nuts to
160-210 inch-pounds.
