TM 55-4920-328-13
2-63. Installation of Inlet Fairing, Torque Tube
Mount, and Torque Shaft.
NOTE
If the engine electrical control unit
(ECU) has been removed, it must
be reinstalled. Refer to TM 55-
2840-248-23.
a. Attach engine sling 21C7081G02 as directed in
TM55-2840-248-23.
b. Attach hook of a suitable hoist to lifting eye of sling.
Be sure that lifting eye of sling is pinned in No. 4 hole
(see figure 2-56).
WARNING
Lifting with Sling
Lifting or hoisting of engine
or engine parts should only
be performed by designated
personnel.
All components of a sling
system such as chain, hook,
links, and pins should be
clearly
marked
with
load
capacity rating. Load rating
for entire system should be
equal
to
load
rating
for
weakest component. These
load ratings should never be
exceeded.
Inspection and testing for
cracks
and
defects
in
components of sling system
should be performed on a
regular basis.
Use only pins, hooks, links,
and slings recommended for
specific engines for lifting.
Do not shorten chains with
knots,
bolts,
or
other
makeshift devices.
Before lifting, balance load.
Alert personnel in area before
lifting the load. Only engine or
engine part should be lifted.
Sling webs made of nylon,
polyester, polypropylene, or
aluminum shall not be used in
areas
where
caustics
are
handled.
c. Raise engine high enough to attach inlet fairing (4),
torque tube mount (6), and torque shaft (9) as follows:
(1)
Remove clip (10). Attach clamp (2) loosely to
swirl frame flange (1), so that the clamp nut is at 9
o'clock position.
(2)
Place inletfairing (4) onto torque tube mount
(6). Leave inlet fairing loose.
CAUTION
While inlet fairing (4) is loose on
torque tube mount (6) during
installation, it must be held in
place by hand to prevent damage
until secure.
(3) With second mechanic helping to keep parts in
proper position, secure inlet fairing (4) and torque tube
mount (6) to swirl frame flange (1).
(4) Align torque tube mount (6) so that word TOP
(marked on flange of torque tube mount) is at 12 o'clock
position.
(5) Support torque tube mount (6), and install 15
bolts (7). Torque bolts to 55-70 inch-pounds.
(6) Slide three preformed packings (13) onto
grooves of torque shaft (9).
