Remove the match-numbered bolts (4)
and nuts (5) from the flexible coupling (22) sleeves.
Slide the sleeves from the hubs onto the water brake
and flywheel shafts. Remove the flange O-ring from the
female sleeve of the flexible coupling.
(3)
Remove the lockwire, then remove the
bolts (6) and washers (7) securing the front and rear
pillow blocks (8, 9) to the frame assembly pads.
Remove the flywheel (10) and pillow blocks as a unit.
(4)
Remove the hub and sleeve from the
flywheel assembly (10) shaft as follows:
(a) Remove the hub packing from the
sleeve; position the sleeve and packing against the
flywheel.
(b) Loosen the setscrew on the flexible
coupling hub.
(c) Place the flywheel assembly in an
upright position.
(d) Surround the forward end of the
flywheel assembly shaft and hub with dry ice. Allow the
dry ice to remain around the shaft and hub for a
minimum of two hours.
(e) Pour SAE 10 weight motor oil into a
pan to a depth sufficient to cover the flexible coupling
sleeve and the plate of the LTCT10543-01 flexible
coupling puller.
(f) Raise the temperature of the oil to
approximately 260°F (127°C).
Note
The following steps must be
performed as quickly as possible.
(g) Remove the dry ice, slide the
sleeve over the hub and attach the plate only of the
flexible coupling puller to the sleeve. (Use coupling
bolts.)
(h) Immerse the puller plate and sleeve
into the heated oil for a period of from three and one-
half to four minutes.
(i) Remove the puller plate and sleeve
from the oil and insert the puller jacking screw into the
puller plate and remove the sleeve and hub. Remove
the hub O-ring and key.
(5)
Loosen the setscrews and remove the
pillow blocks (8, 9) from the flywheel assembly (10)
shaft.
(6)
Properly
support
the
water
brake
assembly (12). Remove the lockwire, then remove the
bolts (11) securing the water brake assembly > to the
torque element body. Remove the water brake
assembly.
(7)
Remove the hub and sleeve from the
water brake assembly (12) shaft as follows:
(a) Remove the hub packing from the
sleeve; position the sleeve and packing against the
water brake housing.
(b) Loosen the setscrew on the flexible
coupling hub.
(c) Place the water brake in an upright
position.
(d) Surround the forward end of the
water brake shaft and hub with dry ice. Allow the dry ice
to remain around the shaft and hub for a minimum of
two hours.
(e) Pour SAE No. 10 motor oil into a
pan to a depth sufficient to cover the flexible coupling
sleeve and the plate of the LTCT1054301 flexible
coupling puller.
(f) Raise the temperature of the oil to
approximately 2600F (1270 C).
Note
The following steps must be
performed as quickly as possible.
(g) Remove the dry ice, slide the
sleeve over the hub and attach the plate only of the
flexible coupling puller to the sleeve. (Use coupling
bolts.)
(h) Immerse the puller plate and sleeve
into the heated oil for a period of from three and one-
half to four minutes.
(i) Remove the puller plate and sleeve
from the oil and insert the puller jacking screw into the
puller plate and remove the sleeve and hub. Remove
the hub O-ring and key.
(8)
Straighten the tabs of tabwasher (14),
then remove the bolt (13) and tabwasher from the
adapter (15). Remove the adapter.
