6-39. T53 Turboprop Torque Element Maintenance.
If the torque element malfunctions or cannot be
calibrated, proceed as follows:
a.
Remove the compound from the potentiometers
and clean with Specification BB-F-1421 freon.
b.
Check the continuity through the signal cable
assembly and potentiometers using figure 6-9 as a
guide.
c.
If the torque element signal cable assembly is
defective, replace the cable or connector, as required.
Proceed as follows:
(1)
Disconnect the cable from the torque
element body.
(2)
Remove the connector from the cable.
(3)
Procure a 20-foot length of WH67896
cable (Schaevitz Bytrex, Inc, Waltham, Massachusetts).
(4)
Solder the leads to the connector using
Specification QQ-S-571 60/40 resin core solder. Use a
new MS3106B-14S-5P connector, if replacement is
required.
(5)
Connect the lead shield to the connector
clamp.
(6)
Connect the opposite end of the cable
assembly to the torque element terminals. (See figure
6-9).
(7)
Apply DC-4 compound (Dow Corning
Corp, Midland, Michigan) to the torque element
terminals.
