Section IX. T53 TURBOPROP POWER ABSORPTION SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
6-37. Scope.
Maintenance of the T53 turboprop power absorption
system
consists
of
cleaning,
inspection,
and
replacement of component parts of the water brake
assembly and torque element after 500 hours of
operation.
Note
At 1,000 hours of operation, the
water brake assembly must be
overhauled
by
depot
level
personnel.
6-38. T53 Turboprop Water Brake Assembly
Maintenance.
Proceed as follows:
a.
Place the water brake assembly on a suitable
stand with the forward end up.
b.
Remove all external components called out in
Figure 6-10.
c.
Inspect thermocouple assemblies (33, 35 and
36) for broken connectors, corroded electrical pins,
frayed cables, damaged mounting connectors and
damaged or corroded probes. Replace the entire
thermocouple assembly if any of the above defects are
found.
d.
Inspect all tube assemblies for dents, cracks,
sharp bends, evidence of leakage and thread damage.
Replace tube assembly if found to be defective.
e.
Inspect valve (22) for dents, leaks, corrosion
and thread damage. Replace if required.
f.
Inspect remaining components; unions, nipples,
plugs, tees, etc., for cracks, dents, corrosion and thread
damage. Replace if required.
g.
Re-install all components removed in step "b".
