WARNING
Drycleaning solvent is flammable
and solvent vapors are toxic. Use
P-D-680, Type II Solvent in a well-
ventilated area. Keep away from
open flames. Avoid prolonged
solvent contact with skin.
(2) Cleaning. Clean turntable assembly
periodically with cloth dampened in drycleaning solvent,
Federal Specification P-D-680, Type II, and wipe dry
with a clean cloth.
(3) Operating procedures. Refer to TM 55-
4920-377-1 3&P for tester operating procedures.
(4) Safety practices. The following general
safety practices shall be observed:

Do not use any other electrical
power except 115 vac at 60 Hz.
Other frequencies will alter the
operation of the turntable.
·
Do not over tighten gear clutch
when making adjustments.
(5)
Maintenance.
The
following
maintenance procedures are for turntable instrument
testers:
(a) Using 1 drop of lubricating oil,
MIL-L-8383, periodically lubricate sleeve bearings.
(b) Lubricate worm and worm wheel
gear teeth with grease, MIL-G-23827.
(c) Lubricate gear shaft collar with
grease, MIL-G-23827.
d. Scorsby Base. The Scorsby base, as shown in
figure 4-5, is used as a primary test apparatus for testing
gyroscopic instruments.
(1) Inspection. Inspect the Scorsby base
using the following procedures:
(a) Inspect fan belt once a month for
wear and looseness. Replace fan belt if worn or loose.
(b)
Inspect
motor
for
smooth
operation. Replace motors that do not operate
smoothly.
