Figure 2-28. Water Brake and Torque System Installation.
h.
Determine the clearance between the aft end of
the torque element shaft and the engine output shaft
adapter as follows:
(1)
Measure the distance from the internal
shoulder of the engine shaft adapter (1, figure 2-29) to
the face (3) of the engine housing. Record this
measurement as dimension A.
(2)
Push the torque element shaft (2) forward to
the limit of travel, then measure the distance from the
aft end of the shaft to the aft face (4) of the torque
element adapter. Record this measurement as
dimension B.
(3)
Subtract dimension B from A to obtain
clearance dimension C. If dimension C is not within
0.060 to 0.265 inch, install washer (4, figure 7-40) inside
of engine output shaft.
i.
Apply molybdenum disulphide conforming to
Specification MIL-M-7866 to the torque element shaft
splines.
CAUTION
Exercise caution when mating the
water brake/torque system and the
engine inlet housing. Failure to
observe this precaution may result in
damage to splines, studs and/or stud
threads.
